I have made a new blogging friend. Her name is Melissa RightMoon? We found each other through Danny Gregory's blog.
We met in person, for real, today. We met up and talked up a storm at Amy's Bread, a great bakery on 9th between 46th and 47th.
Melissa is intelligent, thoughtful, and extremely adventurous and she is a musician to boot. It takes chutzpah to make plans with someone you have met through the World Wide Web, I give us three succulent and juicy, golden, sparkly stars for meeting up close and personal.
So, now.
I think Amy's is really good. They have awesome Cheese Biscuits. As far as I am concerned cheese biscuits or biscuits of any sort, are high on the list of very edible and delicious.
But.
Then, there are Cupcakes from the Cupcake Cafe.
I severely limit my sugar intake as much as humanly possible. No sugar in my coffee, I read labels. Sugar is a treat, and boy were these cupcakes a treat.
I had two.
One chocolate and one vanilla with walnuts (for protein!). If I could do it all over again, I would have eaten the walnut one first because I love chocolate.
This means that I have had three days in a row of high sugar intake. Saturday we celebrated my Dad's birthday with a chocolate mouse cake from 4 and 20 Blackbirds. Nothing to sneeze at, that there bakery. We were given left overs, which we forced ourselves to eat last night.
I am going to have sugar withdrawal tomorrow! MMM-MM-MM.
Apparently Melissa's man is a cupcake afficienado and has created his own rating system. I would love to know more about this...
I am also told that I need to eat cupcakes from Magnolia's, which in comparison, don't look
half as good!
All that aside, I honor the really excited and warm feeling I got when I checked in with my body about meeting Melissa. I hope I am able to hear her sing and that we continue meeting up!
And Melissa? Buy the Gocco.
Those cupcakes are a work of art...how did you only eat 2??? Sounds like a heavenly day all round. Good for you both...as for the sugar...can't say I blame you!

Definitely take him up on the cupcake tour. Magnolia cupcakes are not about aesthetic beauty, just the perfect combination of sweetness, density, and traditional flavor.
You people are awesome!
Posted by: melly at October 12, 2004 03:05 PMmmmmmm . . . sugar. We defrosted a layer of our leftover wedding cake this weekend for a dinner party (actually an hord d'ouevres party) and it was decadent . . . bavarian cream with strawberry jam and whipped cream frosting with white chocolate shavings. I had a piece saturday night and a piece sunday afternoon. I am definately detoxing today!
