Stepping Up to the Plate or Embracing Ambiguity

saguaro_continued.jpg

I really like this piece. There is nothing wrong with it.
It is just that I worked it a bit too hard and now need to continue to bring it up to a level that I wasn't prepared to do. To top it off, I have photos to show my progress and remind me of what it looked like before I took it to another level.
I was going to do a whole comparison thing with close up details of the before and after but I decided that would keep me rooted in the past.
Embracing this ambiguity will help me to expand, grow as an artist (insert flowery sentiment here).
I do like the piece. The color is good, the sparkly-ness. It works.
And it will mean that I have three pieces for the invitational show. New invites can show up to three pieces, second time invites only one piece. So I am doing well by entering three pieces.
So! all is not lost, The world-of-Melanie's-Saguaro-piece-can-be-made-right.

Melanie, you don't sound convinced! I do like the soft colours though, very early morn desertish.

You forgot to mention the interesting composition. Interesting how you brought the cactus even more forward than in the sketch.
I think you are naturally more optimistic than I am. I have a pretty typical melancholy artist thing going on, where my 'settling in' to a piece is closer to waging war some days!
