Claire asked me to explain [the] process of getting the image onto the fabric. So here goes:
I used thickened Procion MX dye in a monoprint manner on Plexiglas.
I painted a thick layer of dye onto the plexiglas. Dried my foam brush, and removed dye off the sheet of Plexi. I cleaned the edges of the image with a cloth before draping an ironed and prepared piece of fabric onto the image and brayering.
Pro Chemical, where I buy my dye, has some in depth instructions on the use of dyes.
Claire knows how to dye though! Check out her blog!
And because she did it:
I am definately a wanna be nerd. I have been told this before, now it is confirmed by an online quiz.

Cool, I've done a bit of monoprinting, but never with the sort of detail you have achieved (mine has so far looked like finger painting LOL).
Thanks for the explaination
Claire
Posted by: Claire at January 19, 2005 03:50 PMi did this quiz before, i got highly nerdy which actually surprised me. i thought of myself more as more mid-nerd level. chemistry happened to be my favorite science class....i also think the questions are misleading/inaccurate...i think there are many nerds that didn't do so well in school but have very specific interests that they excel in besides math, science and/or computers, like the art nerd, book nerd, history nerd.
