6 out of 10

tryptich.jpg

This is the Tryptich I made for the MicroCosmos challange. As I said before, because I used a recycled envelope and didn't entirely cross out the previous zip code, it never got to Ricky Tim's place. Call me a dope!

Yesterday I went to my quild show. I had entered He Threads My Needle into the show which automatically means that it gets judged. Now please go check out this post.
The judges awarded me a 6 out of a possible 10 for Quality of Stitching. Did you go to the link I asked you to visit?
I know. This is a guild show, and a traditionally oriented one at that. The quilts who won ribbons really showed the tastes of the judges and my work just doesn't fit the mold (thank goodness). I think I will stop entering my own guilds show.
I always get bummed after the guild show. I get encouragement from fellow guild members to enter and then wonder why I bothered. None of the judges get art quilting and continue to judge based on traditional perspectives on the medium.

I am away on vacation starting tomorrow. Very excited! I need to go get ready now.

Oh Melly! I am finally getting to see all your recent pictures while I'm logged on here at the library. (I don't know why I can't see your posts on my home computer.) I just adore the triptych! You have such a wonderful way with layers. There must be some reason it won't be in the show... the universe has a special plan for you!

Well, I wish you had gotten the triptych in!!

I love the *man* (whether he's #15, 27 or whatever you want to call him). DO NOT fight your natural inclination to bead or stitch or whatever your instincts tell you to do!!!! Your work is wonderful but most certainly DOES NOT belong in a traditional quilt show!! I wish you were here in west Michigan because your work DOES belong in the KIA ART show!!

Which is why, if I ever feel my work is "good enough" to be in a show, I probably wont' enter anyway. It's all personal taste. And theirs is, apparently all in their mouths. I think it's wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.

I love the triptych! Glad you've got a blog back up and running.

I love the tryptich. I think the judges are idiots. You're right, don't enter your art in traditional shows anymore, those judges just don't relate.

Have a wonderful vacation, hope to speak with you before you leave.

PS-the link worked fine!!!!!!!:)
