A reader saw this post and fell in love with the Blue Bird. She wrote and asked me to make one for her. I did and this is my result.
This is the second time in a month that I have recreated a piece of artwork.
I have a invitation.
Does anyone want to join me in a blog/book reading of The View From the Studio Door, by Ted Orland? Ted Orland coauthored Art and Fear which if you haven't already read it is a fantastic commentary on what "an artist encounters each time they enter thier studio and stand before a blank canvas". In this book Ted Orland explores the "broader issues of what stands on either side of that artistic moment of truth: What are we really doing when we make art?, For that matter, what is art anyway?... and how do we place our art in the artistic community?"
These are excerpt from the back of the book.
This is my idea:
We will each read the book.
We will post about what we have read on Tuesdays, so that it will be easy to surf around and read each others thoughts.
If you do not have a blog, you may read the book on your own and post comments to my blog.
The official start date is June 1
Send me a link to your blog and I will create a participatory list of readers.
This is the button I have made for this group. Please use your own server to post it on your blog. Bandwidth theft is an issue we all need to be aware of.

I have the book and it is the next one on my writing desk...that place where I journal and read about process, spirit, the journey. It will be a treasure to share the reading with others. I so look forward to this group.....thanks Mel
Posted by: Kristin at May 28, 2006 07:46 PMYes, I'd like to participate with the reading group, too. I bought the book today, and I think it's a great idea. Is it a chapter a week? First Tuesday, first chapter sort of thing?

Sign me up! I've ordered it from the author who lives about 12 miles away from me. Hopefully I'll get it in time to participate on 6/1. Love the button!
Posted by: JulieZS at May 25, 2006 11:47 AMHey Melanie,
I would like to participate in the discussion of Ted Orland's book. I may be the only person within Quiltart that didn't finish Art & Fear. I glaze over every time I try to read it. Having a group to discuss Orland's new book will help to get through it.
Thanks for suggesting and organizing this group.

I'd like to participate in your group. I've been inspired, though not nearly enough by "Art and Fear" and this book sounds interesting, especially for discussion.

Posted by: Cathy Ortelle at May 24, 2006 02:54 PMOk. I'll join the reading group. I have the book. I tried to read it on my own, but I don't think I *got* it. Maybe reading and discussing (well, sort of) will make me appreciate it more!
Posted by: Mandi at May 24, 2006 02:37 PMI love this piece! Can I commission one for a Christmas gift for Janet and Rick?
