My comment whoring went really well, I don't think I have ever gotten 22 comments before! Debra started it off, brave girl that she is! Go check out the upper right corner of her blog!
Karoda reminded me that pimping for comments could change the flava of the whole blogging deal, but hey, she won my second prize!
Claire at Little Fish Creations has been wowing me with her art.
Sue reminds me that I am a bit behind the ball because she knows what Silk Fusion is, while I, sadly, don't. And Caro? Over at Splityarn? gets the prize for best banner.
Thank you everyone for letting me know I am not blogging into the wind!

I have been in the mood to make clothing. I have been trying to recreate this dress, that I already own. The top is bias cut, V neck, with bias strip finish on the face of the dress.

I had thought that there might be a way to put the bias finish on in one go. But because of the pocket, I no longer think so.
On the other hand, it is so swimmingly HOT here that my brain is addled. It is at times like these that I wish I had a clothes sewing mentor. I would cal him/her up and ask to drive on by to ask questions!
PS I have gone out and bought a new pattern to try. It could become a fave.
Posted by: martha Bilski at July 23, 2006 08:28 PMYou're much braver than I. With all the amount of time I sit at a sewing machine, you'd think I'd be better at making up my own clothes patterns, but no. I'm really not. Sadly this means I'd be no help with the bias issue.

I think I have the same dress (grin) - well, ok, one with the same neckline. You can do the bias binding on the neck in one swell foop if you do it with double french binding, as in quiltmaking. the only problem I find with that is that the binding gets rather thick. You have to miter that bottom point.
A solution I thought was easier was making (ugh) a facing - a very narrow one - and sew down the bottom edge as well. Though when I look at it, it's about as thick as a bias binding would be. What if the bias binding were made of a very lightweight silk? Contrasting, of course.
And...who is talking about silk fusion? I am currently in love with that stuff! (just made 10 sheets this morning)
Hugs,
Sher
