My mom bakes fantastic bread. She could open a bakery. Her bread would look so much prettier than mine, but she's inspired me to make bread none the less.
This is a recipe from the pages of Peter Reinharts, The Bakers Apprentice for Chabatta. I know I don't really have the look of the bread down and I just took it out of the oven, but it is my first loaf!
so cool!
Posted by: kristine at August 22, 2007 05:10 PMBeautiful! I love baking bread, too, and we make our own pizza dough - easy and cheap! You might like "The Bread Bible" and "The Pleasure of Whole Grain Breads," plus I just recently picked up King Arthur Whole Grain Baking. See if your library has them so you can test drive them.
Posted by: Dianna in Maui at August 22, 2007 02:23 PMYummy, I love this, it's one of my weaknesses besides chocolate! I just took an artisan bread making class last month. My first loaves were a failure, not baked enough :>( I will be trying again soon

Posted by: Jeannie at August 20, 2007 10:49 PMSorry for commenting twice, however it appears that you did not slit the top to allow for 'oven spring'. But the photo may not show it. Did you salt them?
Posted by: mom at August 20, 2007 07:03 PMOhmigod, they look wonderful!!! How do they taste? It looks like your first effort is excellent. Now, when we arrive in AZ, we will eat your bread rather than mine!
