Small Works Invitational

folds.jpg
I have been invited into a small works show, curated by Joanie San Chirico. Very Exciting!
As I am one to follow the rules and am in need of a creative challenge anyway, I have decided to make some new works. Also: as a new comer to this show, I am able to show three pieces and think I should.
The above piece is something I may send to this show. It is quite unlike my currect style, but I like it. It is currently unfinished.
I am thinking that I will need to find some #13 or 15 Rochaille beads in a light, light blue? Not sure yet. I am also in the mind to leave it be in these soft colors.
This would be piece #2 for this show- if I remain happy with it.
This piece interests me because it is the first work inspired by last years forray into figure drawing with sewing machine. Check out: This, this and this.

VMoG

vmog.jpg

I have updated my quilt art gallery! Click on the above photo to go directly to my art gallery.
This piece shows my obsessive ability to bead for hours on end. Meticulous work is my forte. When I bead, time becomes expansive and I loose myself. Problems get solved; my mind breathes, clarifies and expands. I have moments when I feel and experience my genius. It is rare, but so worth it!
I hope you enjoy looking at it.
It has been finished for about a year, I kept holding myself back from posting it to the web because I felt I needed professional photography-someone who could alleviate the flashes of light that occur because of the sequins. But I decided to get over that and show the piece.
The piece has just one commercial print (the yellow around Mary's head), the rest are dyed and surface designed by me, including the embroidery flosses used throughout. It is entirely hand beaded and the frame is beaded mosaic.
I have talked about my love of Betsy Younguist's work with beaded mosaic. I bought a Bead & Button magazine that had an article and project of her style, which immediately translated into something I could do to further my own work.
I love the connections the mind makes and the small incidents of opportunity life provides.
To my suprise tomorrow is VMoG's "holiday of obligation with an octave", whatever that means!

Hermione Complete!

herminoe_complete!.jpg
I have been wearing my Hermione for about a week. It is difficult to get a good photo of it or me in it.
I love the hat. My ribbing is about an inch and a half too long and if I were to knit it again I might knit a few less rows, but I might not. I am used to it and like my ears feeling warm and toasty under a double thickness of ribbing.
I knit this hat using size 8 needles, one size larger than recommended.
The best thing about this hat is that it has made me fall in love with knitting again. I now believe that I can knit, I am not a failure at it. I can fix mistakes and have learned to drop stitches down to problem areas in order to pick them back up correctly. Dropping stitches is no longer scary!
It is good to knit on larger needles with bigger yarn! Nothing like wanting to learn to knit socks before learning to knit all together!
I still haven't gotten to the point where I want to rip my Must Have Cardigan out to correct my gauge...
I figure I will knit a few more hats, a scarf and maybe some wrist warmers. Easy to finish projects to bolster my knitting abilities.
