Stuff n' stuff

lovebirdquillow.jpg

I have been promising images of this comissioned baby blanket with quillow for a while. It is made of silk noil and is hand dyed with Procion MX dyes.
In making the patch, I soy wax batiked three love bird patches. I painted one and didn't like it. Then My guy and I went to the Wine Loft in town, had a night of it and in the course of the night I found a doily. The next day, I took the doily into my studio and over to the quillow patch. I started printing through the doily-which made nice fluffy, pretty cloud shapes. Bingo!

I love how it came out, it is super soft, and has a nice drape. I hope the woman who comissioned it likes it as much as I do. I swear the quillow patch took about 6 tries to get it centered and applied right.

oh and...
I love going over to National Geographic and looking at thier photographs. I popped over there this morning and found a grouping of photos that could be used for inspiration of textile designs. Then I started to get lost.

My Prince

This image should go with the last entry. While away in Patagonia, I painted this image of David. I love him so.

Tagged!

I got tagged, in my two and more years of blogging, I have never been tagged and so...
Andrea tagged me. I am supposed to tell you that. and here are the rules:
1. link to the person who tagged you: Sark's book Succulent Wild Women. Last week I went out for stout at the brewery, a ceasars salad, and Chris Smither concert. I was well taken care of. I got music suggestions by a man at the concert.
3. We planned to go to Mexico for Thansgiving and instead went to Patagonia and stayed at the Spirit Tree Inn.
4. The tip of my finger, that I cut August 17, 2006, is still not normal. I can't stand for the nail to grow long and i think the nerves are wonky.
5. I like to read myself to sleep. I need to read myself to sleep.
6. I like to have two favorite colors together.
7. My studio is often messier than I am able to stand. I clean it, but I never get it quite neat enough.

little tid bits

Last night I went to an art opening by myself. I enjoyed it but it was difficult just the same. People want to talk to me about the changes in my life and I am reticent. It satisifies thier curiousity and serves to put me into a fretful place. As I was leaving the event, I drove behind a car with the bumper sticker,

"You don't have to believe everything you think"

Fitting.
On the otherhand I got two compliments on my hair. I am one stylin' babe. Having never really fussed with my hair, or even had a hairstyle, it is fun to speak with women about the hair salon, the 'woman who does my hair'.
I also got several comments on my red clogs. They were an impulse purchase last year and I have never regretted a moment of it. I feel like a superstar in those shoes, and women everywhere comment on them. Every woman should own a pair of red shoes.

Super Date!

Today we went on a super date.

FabuDate.jpg

We'd been invited to go to Moab, which is incredibly beautiful. But David had stuff that needed to get done this weekend. I know I could have totally gone without him and enjoyed myself in Moab with some really good people.
But I didn't want to be separate from him. He will be going to Manhattan this week and I couldn't spend the long weekend away without him.
So we started thinking of special dates we could do together. Friday night I woke in the middle of the night with 'horseback riding' in my head! Saturday I made some calls.
Super fun.

Butch Fairy Angel Squirrell updated

butch_fairy.jpg

Just thought you would like to know. The squirrell asked for a pleather belt with metal studs! I just had to help the little guy out. Plus the habitat in the last photo was less than optimal.

Divergence

angel_squirrell.jpg

Things have been up in the air and uncomfortable for way too long. My sleeping patterns are off and last night I woke up for 3 or more hours. At one point after reading for about 2 hours and still feeling wide awake, I got out of bed.
And started dressing my plastic squirrel up as an angel. Doesn't she look smashing? with her paw lifted up in an offering of friendship?
Remember this? Squirrell will be another alter similar to it. It is fitting sinve we will be moving as we were just about to when I created the goat altar.
Oh goodness, is it fun to dress little plastic animals up (even if I am doing it at 2:30 at night).
Hey! The baby blanket will be finished this weekend! I turned it around in no time at all! Photos soon!

Monk

Monk almost got eatten by a dog today. Which puts everything into perspective. Monk survived. I saw the dog in question lift Monk up off the floor and Monks back leg stuck straight out. Then I screamed, the dog put Monk down and the dog was removed from the house. He was put in dog prison.
Monk totally recovered though. This video clip was taken aften the fact.
Hm. Well. I guess I am not going to tell the story of how Monk almost got absconded with, dragged off into the mountainous woods around the house and devoured.
Because Monk now tells the story totally different than it happened. Monk bit the dogs ankles as he tried to sweep Monk off his paws unsuccessfully. The Dog yelped in pain and Monk and arrow held the dog at bay, whining and cowering in the corner for hours, until the dog was led away shame-faced by his owner.
He looks that fierce, doesn't he?

Splurge, I deserve it.

the_juki.jpg

Um. Slight bits of oozing guilt.
But I moved it right in and put stickers on it to welcome it into my studio, it was on sale too! It is a Juki TL-98QE, The head has a 6x9" space to move quilts through! it is a fast machine! It actually does stippling better than my Bernina baby! sh. Read that very quietly.
All I need now is a table for it! But that will need to wait. But I wish I didn't have to.
