ATCs and Group Participation

I am going to Houston, after all. I got a last minute invite and am road tripping with Alice and some friends! I have never been.

I don't normally participate in group challenges, but I have had fun creating these Artist Trading Cards for the Quilting Arts booth at Houston. Of course, I didn't follow the rules, I just noticed there are some suggested rules...

So I wanted to make my ATC's super collectable, so they are multiples that create a single image. Dreaming Shrike is a one of four grouping and Daisies and Bugs is a one of eight grouping. I signed them, not sure if that is part of the deal, but I would like whomever gets them to be able to contact me. I may hold some in reserve, we will see.

Are you playing?

That Alice

When Robison-Anton sent me all that thread, my good friend Alice (innocently) asked, how are you going to store it? I probably muttered some like, "I don't know, can't afford, stuff it in corner..."

Alice went home and made this. And, um, don't all the spools looks so purdy and enticing? Like there is no other thing to do but sit and sew. And then there is the tiny shelf for the smalls. Little lovelies that we can't live without? They now have a real home.

Do you remember this post?, where Alice hangs the curtain line and saves the unsightly studio view?

Here is a closer view:

Alice has power tools and knows how to use them.

Almost?

I am on deadline right now. I am doing the edits for my book, I think I am being asked to add bits of my personality to this round of edits. At first I found it to be quite difficult, I am settling into it and it has begun to flow.

I have several posts I still have yet to get to, but they have fallen to the wayside for the time being.

BlueBird.jpg

Here is the Robison-Anton piece. It needs to get shipped off on Monday to arrive in Houston by Thursday. I sorta feel it needs just a tad more.

Notice that this piece is not square? Am I throwing caution to the wind in sending un-square work to Houston? It is my feeling that quilt art need not be square. Having never been to Houston, I don't know if the quilt police reside there.

Even still the piece will get shipped out, in all its un-square glory.

I am impressed that this piece has taken me one week to paint, batch, wash, collage and quilt. Tuesday night I brought this piece to my quilt art group and on that night the piece was basted.

The reason it isn't square is that I use the knife-edge technique to finish it, which means the batting and backing were tucked under from the back prior to quilting. I quilt very tightly and according to whim, not necessarily convention. so...

That is me.

I do hope the piece is well recieved.

Kid in a Candy Shop

IMG_4399.jpg

Remember I talked about giving thanks to the thread company who sponsored my QATV segment? Well? They asked me to make a piece for them in exchange for thread and acknowledgment at their trade shows. The thread came yesterday.
I have used rayon thread for several years, the sheen cannot be beat. The company I had been purchasing thread from stopped carrying th rayon because they cater to industrial embroidery companies and those folks like polyester for its hard wearing capabilities.
Robison-Anton markets their threads to both industrial and home sewers, and luckily for me and us!!! They have a full line of rayon threads, more than 450 colors!

They asked for a garden or landscape type pieces. They will get a bluebird. I have two weeks to finish it in, because it will be shown in Houston. Anyone going to Houston?

And in another bit of excitement, have any of you read this post of Pokey's?

Do I want to go to Houston? Yes! Make ATC's and see my piece hanging in Robison-Aton's stall? Yes!
