Such a rube.

You gotta call a spade a spade, and that is just the way it is. I am a rube. Period. I need a t-shirt that declares this statement purely and simply.

Rube.

I like this word. Today, before we started a day of unpacking, we went to Fairway in Red Hook. We walked.

Not on my own computer, so here is the plain-old link: http://www.fairwaymarket.com/
Go. But come back.

My mouth was hanging open, hick like. Like a woman who has forgotten the taste of Broccoli Rabe. Forgotten what pleasure crusty, air laden bread contains, Forgotten that good food at a decent price and insane quality can be had and is a luxury like no other. And can you pronounce the word Flagel? That is an awesome yumminess.

We walked through Red Hook, a place that is depressed, lacking subway access, but vibrant in its own way. You can almost hear the murmur of longshoremen from one hundred years ago, swaggering in a dank cold fog. Once we got to the market we walked to the back side of the huge brick building with its many open shuttered windows, past a set of dilapidated elevated trains, to look out at Lady Liberty, ducks undulating with the waves, tug boats and the sea salt wind.

I can't say I am settled, or that I feel this is home but the potential is here. It is good to walk side by side with my man, to have driven across country with my brother and had our own adventures, to have two calm cats and an almost settled sewing room.
