Today is my birthday, I am now 41-a marvelous decade. I am tired and sated, yesterday we went to the Bronx Zoo and out to dinner. We saw lions, tigers, birds, butterflies, giraffe and, well, a wild black squirrel, my first. Many of these animals were 'firsts' for me, the black squirrel is the first local siting and I do have a thing for local plants, animals and birds.
Today, a movie and a nap!

Last week I mentioned going to the museum with my journaling pals (Did I? Maybe not.) Maybe I did on facebook, not sure. Anyway we went to the Matisse Exhibit at Moma, which was great. I saw enough of his work to know that my perception of him is skewed by popular cultures embrace of the man.
Usually when I hang with the girls, it is my hope to draw a little something. So I whip through the exhibit and find the piece that sings to me. In this case, The Piano Lesson. I drew it standing in the museum and painted it at home upon returning home.

And last weekend I started a page haphazardly enough, by glueing a typed page into my book. I found the piece of paper on a walk here in Brooklyn and could not resist, it was typed on really nice paper. And it was about latitude and longitude, which I know nothing about. But the top right of the page had the date, July 2, 1937. So I googled the date plus the words 'historical fact' and learned that Amelia Earhart went missing on that day. A subject! A new page.

Very Cool. Aren't birthdays wonderful? Glad you've had a happy one!
I really like Matisse's papercuts. Your Amelia is fantastic! I love the serendipity of the found paper. It was there waiting for you. Sounds like a wonderful birthday celebration. Aren't giraffes cool. I have seen an albino squirrel, but never a black one - neat!
Have a fun filled week.
Hope you had a wonderful relaxing day yesterday. Plus you need the restfulness for all of your forthcoming traveling.
Love!
Dear to my heart, Miss Amelia--having grown up--literally--on an airport, she's always been one of my heroes.
And happyiests again :)
I missed wishing you a happy birthday but I do hope it was joy-filled!
Belated best wishes for your birthday.
Very Happy Belated Birthday Wishes from Down Under Melly. I love visiting zoos- animals are such funny people!
A fabulous day! Well deserved, my friend.
We saw a squirrel in our new backyard last week. Just a regular squirrel, but the kids and I (and the dog) were giddy with delight! In the neighborhood where we lived in TX there were almost no squirrels. Which is what happens when you clear cut ranch land to build giant subdivisions. Ahem.
There are tons of good tv shows to choose from to say it's the best. No matter what is said though, there is no doubt that this show ranks #1 of all of them. Yes, there are shows that are a bit newer but this one still has charm. There is comedy, love, and a little politics, easily moving it up to the top. They just don't make them like this nowadays.
