We all know how very addicted I can become with stamping. Words like potato chips come to mind and mottos that go something like, 'You can't make just one' are a few of my favorites. Last week I was thinking through easy-peasy things you can do to make your mark and Incised Fun Foam Stamps came to mind.
What you will need:
Sticky Back Foam Sheets
An Awl
Mechanical pencil with 3B Lead
Scissors
Tracing paper
A terrific sense of fun and creative play.
Stamp pads
A journal, ATC cards, sumpthin' to stamp!
Not only that but the Art Spark Gals are rolling out their Tutes all week long and these are just from todayl:
Today (Tuesday):
Gwen Diehn will be posting a Tute on a Recycled Slip Cover for a small book.
Kelli Nina Perkins will be doing a Small Media Case with Stitch Paper.
I will post the rest of the Tutorials here and on the Inspired to Quilt facebook fanpage as they go live. Enjoy!!!

Such and easy and fun way to make stamps! I have to try using the acetate on my next ones. thanks Melly!
LOL! Arrow, you are too funny! Excellent tutorial, Melanie. I really like how you showed the different ways to incise the foam with household items. The green thumb was an added bonus. :)
How fun!!! I haven't tried these yet, but now I definitely will run out and get some fun foam TODAY. Your comments were very helpful and love your little winged heart. I almost turned the video off when I thought you were through, but then I would have missed Arrow's comment. Toooo cooool.
A very good tutorial. I'm saving this one! Thanks for doing this. And including your cat!
Thanks for the tutorial. I knew about cutting fun foam into shapes for stamping but not incising it like this. Wonderful.
Very nice tutorial Melly! I love the circles with made with the pencil and pen. Great ideas! It seemed to me that one of your hearts was raised up more than the area around it. Did you cut away some of the form around it or did you just smash the foam down with something? I've been delighted with your easy ideas for making stamps. Thank You! And thanks to Arrow too for being so adorable.
Sheesh - I really should proofread before I post - hopefully you can make heads or tales of what I was trying to say.
I already know all this because I took Melly's class, but I LOVE the tutorial anyway! Thanks!
What a fun tutorial! I like all your ideas for tools...easily available, and not ones I would normally think of. Now I want to go find some fun foam and try it myself.
Good morning Melly, I am supposed to be working on a quilt for a competition due to be handed in on Saturday but guess what I am doing instead? Making fun foam stamps as soon as I watched your tutorial I just had to pull out the fun foam and get started even while you were still talking! Have just made a fleur de lis stamp thanks to your tute, and will make more before I pull myself together and get back to binding my quilt. (No wonder I'm easily distracted, binding not my favourite part, would much rather play with stamps and paint or ink.) Thanks for sharing! Have a great day. x
Great tutorial!! Can't wait to try it. Thanks to you and everyone else doing these tutorials - you're so generous with your time and ideas.
When I first read your bog about fun foam stamps I rushed out and bought some and then it got lost in a pile!!! Well I have excavated the pile, found the foam and I am ready to go!!! You Rock Melanie! I hope that you are feeling well!! Big Hugs!!
I recently used my fun foam stamp that I made after your last postings on them. My cousin sent me some cut plastic scraps that I've been using. I didn't have sticky fun foam but was able to glue my stamps onto the plastic using a mosaic glue I already had. I love the idea of the pen cicles both inside and outside, pen point up and down. Very creative. Now I've got dotted textures soaring through my mind. Thanks once again for letting us watch your work and thinking out loud as you go, always an inspiration. That cat of yours is adorable!
Hi Melly! I like your tool ideas for fun foam stamps. Also the acetate tip. I found some fun foam at the creative reuse center here in Asheville for 25 cents a big sheet. If I get there again before I head up your way I'll bring you some! Thanks for a good tute!
Hey Melly- I just left a comment but it seems to have disappeared. Anyway, I enjoyed your tute, especially the tool ideas and the acetate tip! See you soon! XOXO
Great tutorial Melly! I think I need to buy some foam. Thanks for sharing this!
Excellent tute for the next project with Zoe, my art-a-holic grandaughter. I have been experiencing art deprivation symptoms lately (extra crabby, lackluster, general piss off at the world)and she will love this one as much as I do! Oh, and I finally gave myself an art day today and I feel remarkably better. Tomorrow it's back to the 2 "assigned" quilts but today has been just for me with lots of angelina, fusible fish, and now fun foam!! I can't wait for your new book!!
Hi Melly, Thank you for this tutorial. I also like how your stamp turned out. I'm going to give this a try since it looks like something even I might be able to do! I made a stamp from the thin foam sheet but it came out backwards so thanks for the reminder. Like the acetate idea too. Look forward to your next tute. Ambal
Fun stuff! I have some counter-sinks that might make dots nicely, along with nails, screws, and I think an ice pick for incising! And I still have lots of fun foam from the class I took from you in 2007, but I don't have any ink pads or acetate... guess I'll have to pop over to Michaels! Thanks for the inspiration!
Hugs,
Judy
FAB TOOT!
Thanks for the tutorial, nice to watch and v. inciseful.
I ran in to try this and it was so easy and fun. Sure beats carving, especially words! Love it.
Hi melly,
Love this and of course will try it immediately. Now you have me thinking of "incisors!"
Thanks for the tutorial! I just painted some rabbits inspired by Carla's tutorial, and now incised stamps on acetate are next in line.
Thanks for the tutorial. I've been using foam stamps for my art for about 15 years or so. I started by using recycled Styrofoam trays. I got the idea from a kids art lesson.
In all that time though, I never thought of using a stylus and adding the different textures. Usually I've just used varying sizes of pens.
Your work is exceptionally precise and you have a great eye for design!
Very fun! I love the ease of creating a repeatable image. Thank you so much for sharing :)
I have made a bunch of foam stamps and found the pen treatments such fun. I used a tapestry needle to incise and my pen. I had so much fun! Thank you so much for the tutorial! I posted them on my Flickr site: http://www.flickr.com/photos/58325824@N00/5586946240/
