Rockstar Boro

I sort of like the idea of Rockstar Boro better than Contemporary Boro, so there is a name change going on. I think that I will be able to really push myself and the idea of working Boro to its limits with this sassy and playful name. I want to sew silks, satins, velvets with hand dyed threads in silk, rayon and cotton to this garment. So why not embrace a name with some funk?

I am too excited to wait for December 1st to start stitching, though I will do my best. Because I am impatient, I made a stuff sack for the wrap so that I can sew-on-the-go. What are you doing to get ready?

P.S. Anna left a comment asking, 'What the heck is Boro?', well she didn't use those words but... Tomorrow I will create a post and be informative. See? I gotta get back into the swing of blogging!

Pondering. Pondering what to stitch. Do I want to stitch an oversize man's shirt that I dyed and find comfy or craft a kimono to stitch? Or do I want to go to the thrift store and see if I can harness some of Rice's luck and find something fun to stitch. I did get out cloth and thread and once I decide, I'll start stitching. What would Melly do? :)

Looks fun, but I have no idea what a Boro is. Can you explain more?

I'd like to participate - I haven't yet got my base garment lined up, but I will by December 1. I'm looking forward to the flickr group to see what everyone else is doing! Chris

After seeing the Monttainai exhibit yesterday, I feel compelled to make a boro garment. I have lots of Kimono scraps that I could use. I need to find something that needs this. Love the idea.

Hi Melanie,

I'd like to do some rockstar boro stitching!

Hi Melanie,
I would love to get in on this! Can't wait to read about it tomorrow cause I don't know what a boro garment is either! lol

Sounds like fun and I have lots of dyed fabrics and threads!

I am transforming a handpainted silk charmeuse, short, kimono-type jacket (that I got on my honeymoon trip to Alaska in 1991) into a reversible, longer jacket that commemorates the 20 plus years I have been with my wonderful guy. Gotta finish the underlining layer so that I have something to sew the second design layer to. I'll be busy with that for the remainder of the month of November.

it looks fun and I need something distracting so count me in too!

I must admit, I don't know what a Boro is either.
while I can't join in, I've got Christmas gift making ion the go, I will follow along.
You are always so organized! I love the little bag you made.

Mel----I am all in for this one! I have not done something like join in on a group project, but this is so appealing and up my alley of what I love! Thank you thank you thank you.
Put ME on you list.
Hugs, Linda

I will give it a wirl, once I find out tomorrow what
It is???

yes would love to give this a go

thanks
Linda

Looks like fun to me; I'd like to join in. But i'm also in the camp of WHAT THE HECK IS BORO? Is it related to a small desert dwelling hoofed horselike animal?

i love stephen's short and sweet description.

I'm thinking about playing along. I love the idea. Now I just have to figure out a garment to work on. I have a really nicely worn shirt. I'm thinking about adding longer sleeves and cutting it down the middle to make it into a coat sort of thing.

Heard your podcast with RFZ today and, on a whim, decided to do this. Stopped at the Goodwill and got and old blazer. I think I'm already doomed - it's fully lined and doesn't look too easy to deconstruct.
